Sometimes you find yourself in the middle of nowhere,
and sometimes, in the middle of nowhere, you find yourself!
— Unknown

I began my career as a professional engineer, but I always felt that something was missing.  I finally went out on my own and found my passion as a world traveler, and then eventually took on life as a travel guide.  With 3 seasons working for G Adventures in Canada and SE Asia, this transition most definitely fulfilled some of the desires I had been missing.  I need to work in a business that makes people happy every day.  Traveling and showing people new places and discovering new cultures, brings smiles to peoples’ faces every day, and sometimes that can be payment enough!  I thrive on challenging people, getting them out of their comfort zones to overcome their fears, no matter how large or small.  Just a fear of the unknown world out there can easily be conquered.

For me, the most important aspect while traveling is the relationships you create, whether it is with local people or other travelers.  Immersing yourself in the local culture and interacting with local people is paramount on any of my trips.  Not to mention the sights, sounds and flavours of the world that will wow travelers every day!

I have traveled to or worked in over 65 countries and am very comfortable many places in the world.  Of course, there are still times when I have reservations when traveling to a new country, but that is part of the challenge, excitement and beauty of travel for me.  As a self proclaimed travel engineer (as I now consider myself), I feel that I need to share my wealth of travel knowledge and experience, and help people get past their reservations to discover more of the beautiful big world out there. You won’t be disappointed!  Travel allows you freedom; you never know what the next day might hold.  Even a bad experience can be a great story afterwards!!

When I’m not actively traveling, I’m tending to my other passion – the great outdoors.  In winter, I’m usually found alpine skiing in the mountains around my home in Kelowna, BC, Canada, or mountain biking up them in summer.

Martin's fun and enthusiasm is matched by his organizational skills, thoroughness and travel knowledge. He was usually the last one to bed and first one up in the morning to ensure that the next day was organized. His tireless work ethic ensured the tour went smoothly and the hours he put in certainly didn't dampen his energy and enjoyment.
 Steve, Australia

His invaluable insights into local customs and etiquette, gained through his own extensive travels, helped us feel completely comfortable in an environment so different from home, and even form connections with locals- the best way to truly experience a country!

I spent two weeks traveling through Canada with Martin as my guide, and I couldn't recommend his tours more. Martin's positive and energetic attitude kept the whole group high-spirited, and through his careful preparation and extensive knowledge of the area he provided a seamless trip that allowed us to relax, learn, and enjoy. I've never experienced a tour before or since that has come close in comfort, quality, or fun. Thank you, Martin, for delivering an unforgettable experience!
- Hayden, Australia

We traveled through South-East-Asia with Martin for three weeks and enjoyed every minute. Martin is a super experienced world traveler who knows a lot about foreign cultures and places. He went out of his way to give us the best possible experience of all the places we visited and made sure our travel was as fun and as smooth as possible. After doing guided trips in many countries now we can say that our trip with Martin was one of the best travel experiences we had.
- Nils, Germany

Touring across the Canadian Rockies with Martin will always be one of the top times of my life.  I am so grateful that he was our guide. He worked very hard (seemingly effortlessly to the group) to make our trip a success. He went above and beyond to fit in as many "wow" moments as possible.  Something I really liked is that Martin has a deep respect for the wildlife and ensures his group see great things but without upsetting the local creature features, and without risk to themselves.  He's a top guy and I'd recommend him to anyone without hesitation.
